While working in a cow shed, Gopinath observed the owner’s children going to school and wondered why he couldn’t have the same opportunity. After few years, his father returned and claimed to be living in Bangalore, working in construction. Believing his father could take care of him, Gopinath followed him to the city, where he was enrolled in a near by school by his stepmother.
During his work, Gopinath encountered the Singh community in Akkiappa Garden near Yeshwanthpura. In this community, children rarely reached high school as they were pushed into the work force at a young age. Gopinath convinced the parents to bring their children back to school and organized special coaching and personality development classes forthem. After three years of effort, nine children from the community passed their exams and continued their higher studies.
