Our situation took a positive turn when the Childline 1098 team intervened and rescued my sister and me.
In my family, there are my parents and a younger sister. My parents were engaged in rag-picking in Nelamangala, Bengaluru Rural. I was studying in the 1st standard at a nearby Government school. Unfortunately, my father, who struggled with alcoholism, subjected my mother to physical and verbal abuse, disrupting our family environment. Mealtimes were particularly challenging, and the only reprieve came on the days when my parents went rag-picking, allowing us to have food; otherwise, starvation loomed.
They brought us to the Praspara Adoption Centre in Arisnakunte, Nelamangala Taluk. After the allotted time at the adoption centre concluded, in 2021, I was presented before the Rural Child Welfare Committee, who subsequently referred me to Sparsha Trust’s Open Shelter. I am content here, receiving excellent care, and thoroughly enjoying the activities I participate in. I am grateful for the opportunity to study and receive an education.
