Kids Kingdom

Bright futures beyond construction

India’s cities continue to attract thousands of migrant families in search of work, particularly in the construction and sanitation sectors. While these workers form the backbone of urban growth, their children remain among the most neglected. With both parents engaged in long, labour-intensive jobs and no social support systems, children - especially those aged 0 to 6 years - are often left unsupervised in unsafe environments like construction sites or slums.
These children face multiple vulnerabilities: malnutrition, risk of accidents and exploitation, lack of early education, and severe emotional neglect. According to the National Family Health Survey (2015–16), 35.5% of Indian children under five are underweight, 38.4% are stunted, and 21% are wasted - numbers that underscore the need for urgent intervention.
Early childhood is the foundation for lifelong learning - yet without nurturing care, these children are denied their fundamental right to development. Their right to early childhood development - recognized in the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals - must be upheld to ensure that they can grow to their full potential with dignity, confidence, and equal opportunity. It is imperative to create nurturing, inclusive spaces that ensure holistic development and integration into mainstream education, breaking the cycle of poverty and neglect.
Our vision is to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for the children of construction workers and safai karmacharis (aged 6 months to 6 years). Kids Kingdom provides early childhood care and education, ensuring each child receives love, protection, nutritious food, healthcare, and age-appropriate learning. The project also supports parents through active engagement, helping families build stronger foundations for their children’s futures.
This initiative addresses the multiple vulnerabilities faced by children of migrant and sanitation worker communities - including poor nutrition, unsafe environments, lack of early education, and emotional neglect. By offering holistic care and structured early learning, Kids Kingdom enables these children to grow in safety, confidence, and curiosity.
Ultimately, the project aims to prepare every child for mainstream education, while fostering the physical, emotional, and social development essential for a dignified and fulfilling childhood.
  • Safe and Nurturing Environment: Children are provided with a secure, caring space while their parents work – crucial for their overall well-being and development.
  • Holistic Development: Activities like sports, crafts, drawing, music, yoga, and cultural programs support age-appropriate physical, mental, and emotional growth.
  • Health and Nutrition: Regular health check-ups, proper nutrition, and timely immunizations reduce malnutrition and promote healthy development.
  • Early Learning: Foundational educational and cognitive activities help build a strong base for future academic success.
  • Parental Empowerment: With children in safe hands, especially mothers can focus better on work, improving household income and stability.
  • Parent-Child Bonding: Structured engagement opportunities strengthen emotional bonds between parents and children.
  • Economic Stability: Reliable childcare enables parents to work more effectively, contributing to the family’s financial security.
  • Child Rights and Dignity: The program upholds every child’s right to care, protection, and opportunity for growth.
  • Mainstream Education: Children are transitioned into formal schooling at age 6, ensuring continued learning and long-term success
Since its inception, the program has reached a total of 307 children, creating meaningful and lasting change in their lives. The key outcomes include:
  • Vulnerable children are protected from abuse and neglect through a safe and secure environment.
  • Better physical well-being through regular health monitoring and timely medical support.
  • Children demonstrate improved readiness for formal education, with stronger cognitive abilities and foundational learning skills developed through age-appropriate activities.
  • Parents take responsibility for their child’s development.
  • Children aged 6 are successfully enrolled in mainstream education.
  • Families secure valid and appropriate social entitlements.
  • Early health issues are identified and referred for necessary treatment
